A quiet afternoon in Takayama

I’ve tried to create a calm atmosphere that suggests the harmony and peace of mind you get when there is a balance between the world outside and your intimate self. Modelled with Blender 2.43 and rendered with Yafray 0.0.9, my main difficulty was getting the right lighting in bots sides, given the long rendering times in Yafray. There is no postpro, apart from a little DOF-blur in the garden, that I applied over a mask created from Blender.

Loneliness

Made with Blender 2.41 (the man with Makehuman and then the armature in Blender). I wanted to express the feeling of someone who has lost a loved one.

Friday's game

This fall I saw a grasshopper catching the last feeble sun rays with its front legs as if holding a book or something. I imagined him playing cards, and this was the inspiration for this image. Ambient light is produced by a big area lamp in the ceiling, plus some blue spots to outline the hopper's heads and detach them from the background. Smoke (over the ciga and under the lamp) are obtained with two transparent planes uv-mapped with a cloudy mask.

Who am I?

Maybe some day the robots will ask themselves about their own identity. This is the concept of "Who am I?" The work is modelled in Blender and rendered with its internal raytracer. Just two lights: a bluish area light in the TFT and a warm soft spot on top. I made two renders, one of them just to obtain an alpha mask for the foreground, and then I put the background very little out of focus with Photoshop. Any comments will be welcome!
