Dreamlands does to terrain, what Unreal3 does to playermodels... high resolution normalmaps.
Dreamlands uses fractal mathematics to create [up to 40 million x 40 million] heightmaps, geometrymaps, normalmaps, and texturmaps.
This data, exported as .3ds, and .bmp files can then be used in almost any rendering package.
Dreamlands can also burn complex lighting, and shadows into the texture itself.
This provides "next gen visuals" in a single pass, on previous gen hardware.
Planar, and spherical terrain, satelite data, and fractals.
